Holy Cross Hospital has selected Loretta Ortiz y Pino, MD as the new Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Ortiz y Pino brings many years of medical knowledge and expertise to the position.
“Dr. Ortiz Y Pino’s experience with both patient care and administration make her an ideal advocate for many quality and patient care improvement initiatives,” says Peter Hofstetter, CEO for Holy Cross Hospital. “She is known for her role as a local pediatrician, has practiced in the area for many years, and knows our community, all of which will provide tremendous medical knowledge for the hospital as we grow into the future. We are very excited to have Dr. Ortiz y Pino join our leadership team.”
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports to and receives administrative direction from the hospital’s CEO and will serve to integrate the activities of the medical staff and hospital administration. She will work closely with the Chief of Staff and act as a liaison between the staff physicians and administration, playing an integral role in improving clinical outcomes and processes for quality and patient safety.
Dr. Ortiz y Pino will assume the responsibility for medical oversight of a number of ongoing hospital programs that were historically overseen by many separate part-time medical directors. Dr. Ortiz y Pino’s role as Chief Medical Officer will provide one “go-to person” for the operations of these hospital programs, creating more consistency and efficiency among all of them.
“I’m really excited about this position; it is exciting, and a great privilege,” says Dr. Ortiz y Pino. “My hope is to bring great things to the health care of Taos, as well as to the already existing and wonderful hospital programs, by providing consistent medical direction and oversight for quality improvement and patient safety.”
Dr. Ortiz y Pino grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She attended Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California and completed her residency at the University of Colorado in Denver.
