Dermatology Clinic

Holy Cross Hospital's Dermatology Clinic is dedicated to providing accurate and compassionate Dermatology care. We are committed to accurate diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the largest organ of your body, your skin. We utilize evidence based medicine for the treatment of dermatological problems.

Ranging from the evaluation and treatment of rashes to skin cancer, our medical dermatology services are broad and effective. Our goal is to help you achieve and maintain healthy skin.

Skin conditions affect the whole patient; we strive to understand how a particular skin condition affects each patient and try to employ treatments that will allow that patient the best possible understanding of their condition and the treatment options available. Helping patients achieve a better quality of life is the foundation of our department.

Our Provider

Jeanne Alvarez, Family Nurse Practitioner; CWS (certified wound specialist) and DNC (dermatology nurse certified). Jeanne has been an independent Nurse Practitioner for many years. “It’s such a rewarding career,” she says. The first seventeen years of Jeanne’s medical career was in Maine, but moved to Taos after her children left for college. Her husband, Jose Luis, retired from the Navy after 22 years, and he now teaches math and science at Taos Middle School.

Jeanne was instrumental in building the HCH Dermatology Clinic, which opened in May 2011. “I would like to see the Clinic continue to grow.” I keep up my education, and stay up to date in order to provide the best possible care to my patients. I still do primary care at Las Clinicas del Norte on Saturdays. I believe that it is important to maintain a holistic view of patients and put all the pieces together to establish what is happening to the patient. Jeanne is also a paramedic associated with the El Rito Fire Department, and she teaches CPR classes for Las Clinicas and El Rito Fire Department.

HCH Dermatology Clinic is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  For an appointment call your doctor for a referral, or call 751-5814 for more information.

Wound Care Clinic

Holy Cross Hospital's Wound Care Clinic helps each patient heal their wounds. Each patient receives advanced wound care treatments as well as other state of the art wound care therapy.

Every patient at Wound Care receives a personalized wound care plan based on an initial assessment. We use a holistic approach to heal wounds. We evaluate nutrition, vascular flow and suggest ways to control underlying disease processes.

Beyond the wound healing treatments, patients at the Clinic are provided individualized education to help them avoid future non-healing wounds.

Patients learn:

  • How to properly care for wounds at home
  • Methods for reducing and possibly eliminating recurrence of wounds
  • How to protect wounds and themselves from infection, enlarging and/or future injuries

The dedicated nurses at the Wound Care Clinic have undergone advanced training in wound care. Providing excellent, compassionate care to our patients is our number one goal.

Wound Care Clinic is open Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00. For an appointment call your doctor for a referral, or call 751-5814 for more information.
