New 2005 Hospital After Expansion

Holy Cross Hospital Foundation

      Picture Perfect Health Project
What is the Picture Perfect HealthProject?
An integrated 2-year plan to upgrade Holy Cross Hospital’s Radiology Department, the Picture Perfect Health Project includes:
        • Upgrading the hospital’s communications system
        • Digitizing all imaging in Radiology
        • Purchasing new digital mammography and fluoroscope equipment.
By the end of 2009, this new system will be installed at a cost of over $1,500,000.

How Will the Picture Perfect Health Project Help Patients?
All radiology equipment—including mammography and fluoroscopic equipment—will be upgraded to produce digital images.
Digital images will replace old celluloid films, thus:
        • Providing clear, high quality, high resolution images.
        • Giving patients and doctors immediate access to images by eliminating film developing time.
        • Cutting examination time for patients in half and reducing examination wait time
        • Eliminating cumbersome storage problems (current x-ray films require huge storage rooms).
        • Allowing easy transport and storage of images with information technology. They can be sent via the Internet anywhere in the world and can be permanently stored on CDs or other data storage devices.
How Will the Foundation Support the Project?
The Foundation has pledged to raise $360,000 by December 2008 to support this project. Through the generosity of people like you and through our special events Daffodil Days and Toast of Taos, we have already raised over $119,000. Fund-raising plans for late 2007 include a mail-out donation request and the beginnings of our Annual-Giving Campaign.

      Holy Cross Hospital Health Fair
Presented by the Foundation for the first time this year, the 2007 Holy Cross Hospital Health Fair on September 15, 2008, was a BIG SUCCESS. Over 500 people attended, over 350 blood tests were done, and we had over 130 volunteers. A BIG THANKS to the dozens of Auxiliary volunteers and the Foundation volunteers and helpers.

Lion’s Club expanded their eye van service to give exams to dozens of elementary school children. They are already working on expanding the program next year. This is one benefit of having the Health Fair during the school year.
The 2008 Health Fair is scheduled for September 13, 2008.

      2007 Toast of Taos
2007 Toast of Taos, the Foundation’s biggest special event of the year, ended July 14, 2007. After 10 months of preparation, the gala ran smoothly and provided a wonderful experience for all participants. The gala spanned June 27-July 14 and included many different celebrations:
Southwest Wine Competition: On June 27 and 28, 10 judges from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado converged on Taos to taste and evaluate 197 wines from all over the Southwest. For a full list of winners, please visit www.toastoftaos.com.
Bubbles and Balls Golf Tournament. Underwritten by the John and Jeanne Hughes Foundation, the Bubbles and Balls tournament included a skins game and a scramble. Eighty scramble players enjoyed a continental breakfast, barbeque lunch, and great goodie bags. Winners took home beautiful crystal trophies, champagne, and designer golf balls. Everyone involved had a wonderful time.
Kick-off Celebration. Seventeen winemakers from four states participated in the Kick-Off Celebration on July 4 at the KTAO Solar Center. Despite a rainstorm and high winds, the party went on! Attendees enjoyed tasting award-winning wines and picking their favorites; munching terrific food from Pizano’s; and listening to music from Jimmy Stadler, Billy Archuleta, Gina Spellman, Maria Visse, Eileen Kalinowski, and Dusty Magnolia’s Blue Proposal. Winners of the Southwest Wine Competition were announced near the end of the celebration.
Art D’Vine Gallery Tours: Thirty-three galleries participated in two art gallery tours. Each gallery featured a different winery and restaurant offering food and wine tasting. Participants enjoyed visiting our exceptional galleries, tasting wonderful southwest wine, and munching appetizers from our outstanding Taos-area restaurants.
Wine Dinners: Attendees thrilled to four wine dinners at Bravo, El Monte, Doc Martin’s, and Stakeout Restaurants. The chefs went all-out preparing the menus, and each meal featured at least four wines from different southwestern wineries. Winemakers described the wines before each course.
Wine Class: Winemaker Matt Cookson of Winery at Holy Cross Abbey gave a fascinating 90-minute class at Bravo! for 10 eager wine aficionados. He offered a wealth of information on winemaking, the history of wines, and the components of a good wine while walking the participants through tastings of five Holy Cross Abbey wines, including a syrah that had been in the bottle only five days. Bravo! provided delectable munchies to complement the wines.
Art and Wine Auction: 2007 Toast of Taos concluded with wine and food tasting and a fine wine and art auction at El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa. Over 60 attendees sampled wine featured in the auction and gourmet appetizers while perusing the outstanding selection of art and wine sets. The bidding was fierce, strongly assisted by our fantastic auctioneer, Ray Padilla of Penasco.

      2008 Toast of Taos
The 2008 Toast of Taos schedule and ticket prices have been set. 2008 Toast of Taos includes a big kick-off at the KTAO Solar Center, wine dinners, an art gallery tour, and an art and wine auction. Ticket prices range from $25 to $100. Please join us July 4-July 12. Take a look at www.toastoftaos.com for more details.

      Scholarship Developments
Almost all of the fall Holy Cross Hospital scholarships have been paid (over $106,000 so far). Several students are in the process of appeals after failing to submit materials in the past or presenting materials after the deadline. Students are already asking about 2008 scholarships. Scholarship applications will be available in February, when Executive Director Sally Trigg will be visiting local high schools.

      Kids in Need
During October, the Foundation's Kids in Need Program will make a gift of an adaptive high chair to a disabled child.

      Annual Giving Campaign
The Foundation is currently planning our most ambitious campaign to date: The Annual-Giving Campaign. In this campaign we will identify and cultivate our most important donors, creating a foundation of consistent support that we can develop and grow. One of the most exciting parts of this campaign is its focus on two-way education: the Foundation teaches about the hospital and the Foundation, and the Foundation learns about the concerns and desires of the public. The whole point is to develop relationships between the Foundation and its donors, between Holy Cross Hospital and the public, and between the Holy Cross Hospital and the Foundation. The Foundation is very excited about this new campaign and about the doors that it will open.
