Our Areas of Focus:
- Increase the infrastructure of the health system in Taos so that it supports families caring ways
- Connect families to the health system
- Expand health care work force

Taos First Steps Program
We provide new parents with information, support and resources that promote healthy childhood development and a positive family foundation.
- Connects new parents with resources that assist them in feeling supported and helps them become advocates for their child’s well-being.
- Promotes healthy family habits and healthy home environments.
- Increases pregnant women’s knowledge of prenatal issues which leads to positive birth outcomes.
- Increases the number of pregnant women who receive consistent prenatal care.
In partnership with UNM - Taos Early Childhood Resource Center and other organizations, Holy Cross Hospital’s First Steps Home Visitors provide support to women who are pregnant for the first time and first-time parents including fathers, adoptive parents and foster families.
Taos First Step's home visitors foster a healthy transition to parenthood for the first three years of the child’s life. Through one-on-one relationships, parents gain knowledge about nutrition, preventative health care, preschool readiness and access to community resources.
