Veronica Sanchez, LISW

Licensed Social Woker, Case Management

Veronica is a motivated and determined woman. She is a LISW. She is currently working on her doctorate degree and is a second year student in the program. She will finish in 2013 with a doctorate in social work. Veronica also teaches two classes for a human services program at UNM Taos. She has been teaching for four years and says she really enjoys it. “One day at a time,” Veronica says as to how she manages working full time, going to school, teaching classes, and raising her nine year old daughter. “I think more about what I need and want to do instead of what I have accomplished.”

Veronica has worked in outpatient mental heath programs for adults, school based health clinics in Northern New Mexico, and done multi-systemic therapy work throughout her career. “Working at Holy Cross Hospital has been a fantastic experience,” she says. “Social work is a great profession and there are so many areas of practice as well as such a high need for what we do. There is a great potential to work in communities and in our state.”

Many people have inspired and continue to inspire Veronica. “My list grows daily. No one ever does anything alone.” The characteristics of the people who have had the biggest impact in Veronica’s life are people who care about others and are passionate about what they do. They are people who are willing to help. Veronica also says that her daughter inspires her and teaches her every day.

Being from Taos Veronica says she came back because her family is here. “This is my community and there is social service delivery that needs to happen. Tourism is good, but what about the people who are here and have chosen Taos as a home. They need the social services. Taos is a good place to raise a family its beauty draws you here, but it also provides opportunity and challenge.”

When asked where her favorite place to go in Taos she says with a smile, “all the good restaurants. We have good food around here. My favorite is Graham’s Grill. I love that place!”
